finding
time
to exercise; you have to
make
time.
“We can always fit in the things
we deem important,” Bryant says.
Formalize your commitment to
better health by scheduling regular
workouts in your datebook or
digital calendar— and do it far in
advance. With that time officially
blocked out, other obligations are
less likely to muscle in.

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
“Getting active with your kids
allows you to do double duty,” Visek
says. “You enjoy quality time with
them while improving your own
health.” Just make sure you don’t
stray to the sidelines. In one recent
study, moms with children under 6
believed they were getting at least
an hour of exercise every day just by
chasing their kids around. In reality,
only a third of mothers hit the
30-minute mark. So seek out
activities that require constant
motion, such as soccer, tag, or
jogging next to the kids as they ride
their bikes. Stuck indoors on a rainy
day? Try engaging them in a dance
party or jump rope contest.
(Motion-controlled video game
systems— like Nintendo’s Wii— can
help in a pinch, Visek says.) One
other option if child’s play isn’t for
you: Reach out to other parents in
your community and form a free
babysitting co-op. You’re probably
not the only one who needs a break.

Beyond the drudgery of following
the same DVD day in and day out,
muscles quickly acclimate to the
movements, undermining weight
loss and fitness gains, Bryant says.

local library. (Tip: If your library is a
lending partner with neighboring
branches, search the online database
